CONGRATULATIONS & THANKS!
Congratulations to all who competed in the 1997 Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series. This year marks the seventh edition of this event and as Race Director, I must say that the grace and skill that the participants bring to this event truly makes it an honor to serve as Race Director. I hope that everyone enjoyed the series and realizes the community support that goes into making this event such a success.
JOEL V. MCKNIGHT, ATTORNEY AT LAW and THE BICYCLE SHOPPE of Charleston, Kiawah, and Mount Pleasant were the major sponsors of this years series. JODY, a long time participant in the CSTS, continued with his generous support of this event. The BICYCLE SHOPPE and TRUE APPLE GATE were first time sponsors of CSTS, but over the years have been true fans and supporters of this event. Congratulations to the Bicycle Shoppe for being named one of the top 100 bike shops in the country.
We thank FRANK SANTANGELO, Physical Therapist, for heading up the medical safety concerns for the series. Frank has not only served this event since before its inception, but he remains a person whos contribution to fitness and wellness has touched thousands across our community. Music and sound again this year was provided by LEE EDWARDS and EDWARDS MCCRAE ENTERTAINMENT.
Craig Massey and PIGGLY WIGGLY once again have helped us not only with food and beverage for the series but their continued support serves as a reminder of the PIGS commitment to this community. Race after race The Pig is there and we just cant thank PIGGLY WIGGLY enough for their long term and generous support. For the second year MICHAEL BANNISTER of FAMILY DENTISTRY has been a generous sponsor. Mike is also a long time participant in the series and his encouragement and support over the years has been greatly appreciated.
Without a doubt we all owe the staff at the JAMES ISLAND COUNTY PARK a big thank you for allowing us to stage this event on such a beautiful site. KEVIN, JOE. CHRISTENE, SUSIE, JAY, and the rest of the staff contributed such enthusiasm, support, and professionalism that it helps make my job both fulfilling and enjoyable. And finally a big thank you to the LOW COUNTRY PADDLERS, THE COASTAL CYCLISTS, and THE CHARLESTON COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT for contributing their expertise that helps promote safety for all of our participants.
I think one of the keys to the success of the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series has been the respect that all participants seem to have for one another. Regardless of equipment, times, skills, and finish place I would hope that everyone feels comfortable and at home at the CSTS. As you read through the results please reflect on the pages and pages of names, and the work and commitment it took for each person to compete in and complete this event. As the race director it keeps me coming back for more... as a field you are an inspiration.
Sincerely,
Paul King
CSTS Race Director
