EAST COOPER COASTAL TRIATHLON COURSE
THE SWIM
The .6 mile swim will be an ocean swim parallel to the shoreline and with
the prevailing current. Swimmers will exit the water immediately in front of
the Isle of Palms County Park. Water temperatures average 65 to 69 degrees
at this time of year. Wetsuits will be allowed and 
will be
offering Wetsuit rental. Call (843) 849-9292 to reserve suit.
THE BIKE
The 16 mile bike will leave Isle of Palms on the Connector to Mount
Pleasant. At Hungryneck Boulevard cyclists will turn left and follow
Hungryneck Boulevard for about a mile and a half before turning around and
heading back to Isle of Palms. Bikes will follow Palm Boulevard across
Breach inlet to Sullivan's Island. The route on Sullivan's Island will
return cyclists back to Breach Inlet by way of Middle Street where they
will follow Palm Boulevard back to Transition Area.
THE RUN
The five mile run course, which includes a half mile beach run on hard packed sand, will take
triathletes back over the Isle of Palms Connector to Hungryneck Boulevard where the new
finish line will be at The Shoppes at Seaside Farms - Just off the Isle of Palms Connector
in Mount Pleasant. Shuttle buses will be available for transportation back to the Isle of Palms.
OPEN/ELITE DIVISION: Awards will be given to the top three males and
females. The Open/Elite Division is restricted to those who have finished in
the top 20 overall in a triathlon. Entrants are guaranteed placement in the
first wave and specially designated transition area. Those who enter this
division will not be eligible for age group awards.
AGE GROUPS & MASTERS DIVISION: Age group awards will be in 5 year increments
and will be at least 3 deep in all age groups. Master Division awards will
be given for the top male and female over 40 years of age.
CLYDESDALE/ATHENA DIVISION: Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers in each
division. Clydesdales are limited to men 200 pounds or greater. Athenas are
limited to women 150 pounds or more. Those registering as Clydesdale or
Athena will not be eligible for age group awards. This is an OPTIONAL
division.
RELAY DIVISION: Awards will be given for the top team in each category. Each
team may have two or three members. Categories consist of all male, all
female or mixed teams.
