Spring is definitely here; finally! What a long, wet, cold Lowcountry winter. But that's behind us... temperatures look to be in the mid seventies for raceweekend with water temperatures pushing into the upper sixties. The 2010 East Cooper Coastal Triathlon is South Carolina's first major triathlon of the season and it will be great to see everyone out on the beach early next Sunday. Online registration will be open until Friday April 16th at midnight. Packet pick-up and late registration (if available) will be at TrySports in Mount Pleasant on Friday April 16 and Saturday April 17 from 4 to 7 PM both days. Packet pick-up will resume on Sunday morning at 6 AM. Please present photo ID when picking up. To make things easy on yourself (and staff) plan on arriving no later than 6:15 AM on raceday. Remember, triathletes will need to walk/jog about a half mile from Transition Area to swim start. This makes time very short. However, the sunrise this time of year is extraordinary and it is well worth being relaxed and prepared to race while watching a beautiful Carolina sunrise out over the ocean. We are expecting a full field of 185 individuals and 18-20 teams so it is extremely helpful to pick-up registration material Friday or Saturday to avoid the crunch raceday morning. Please be advised that all on-street parking is metered and will begin to be checked at 8 AM. Following the signs to TRIATHLON PARKING will lead you to complimentary parking with vehicles needing to be removed by 11:30 AM on raceday. There will be three waves; Wave #1 (7:30 AM) - All Age Group men and all Clydesdales. (There will be no Open/Elite category; overall winners will be "pulled" from age groups). Wave #2 (7:32 AM) - All Age Group women and all Athenas. Wave #3 (7:34 AM) - All Relay Teams. This is a point to point triathlon with shuttle service available at FinishLine area for the five minute ride back to the Transition Area. Award ceremony should begin about 10:15 AM. A special thanks to our two presenting sponsors, TrySports and Commonwealth Insurance Group. Their support is instrumental to the success of the East Cooper Coastal Triathlon. Looking forward to a great event; be careful in your training and see you soon. Paul and Kathleen King |
